[Speedpaint] Rei Saotome by MikomiKisomi [Speedpaint] Rei Saotome by MikomiKisomi
I held a poll on twitter of which YGO girl I should draw, and Rei/Blair won! It was going to be a simple drawing but it slowly became more and more elaborate :''D

Okay so!

Overall I really like this picture, it stands out between the masses of YuGiOh contribution I see daily. I really love how you worked with this idea - Rei seems to come out of a fusion summon, if I understand this correctly?
I really like the colours, also how the lighting from the summon method affects her body the closer she is to the 'portal' she is coming from. There are some minor errors about the lighting, but they aren't destroying the atmosphere. The one which I am addressing here is the end of the belt, I am not sure if the lighting would be affecting it like this, correct me if I am wrong. ^^;
I really really like how you are drawing hair! It has a very natural flow, and the different blue shades give it a wonderful depth, and it isn't overdone with too many shades. I also like how you put in some purple contrast, but I want to ask, wouldn't the hair be getting affected by the blue shine as well? The highlight is a bit hard in comparison to the overall image, but I count this as personal preference. :)
In general, you seem to have a good skill in setting colours and contrasts. The pants are also very well shaded, they feel to me like I could touch them and would have a soft, warm cotton in my hands. In general, I like how you shade, though I would probably put in a bit more 'natural' folds especially in her vest, though being shaded pretty good, it still lacks a bit more 'form' to give it the feeling of actual fabric.

What I also really appreciate is that you are sticking to your own style. I am seeing soooo many artists who are trying to fix their style to the anime, but in my opinion that kinda looks boring? I love how you combine semi-realism with anime - the eyes, nose and mouth look really natural, though they still don't escape their little anime style and that makes them overall shine in a way which let's one focus on the face. Your eye colouring is gorgeous! <3
I am bit iffy with the skin colour though, it is a bit too red and looks a little off in contrast to the other skin colours. That can be fixed easily though - when I pick skin colour, I choose some little reddish orange and no whites. I guess that is something I personally would change, the contrast is too high between almost whitish pink and red, which makes the skin look a bit odd, too fleshy I would say.
Also there are some minor anatomy things: While the ears seem in the right position, they are too small for the overall face, usually the ears reach from the eye to the nose. This could also be taken as 'personal preference/art style', but I want to point it out as well, that the head seems to be too big, because between hairline and end of the head is too much space. Then again, that is personal preference, so we might have different views about it. c:

Hands, oh hands... you definitely draw them well, especially fingers. c:
However, I would advice to continue practicing them, because the connection of the hand with the wrist doesn't seem right to me. The wrist should be smaller?

I like how you draw fingers, and the finger nails look very natural to me.

Looking at this, you definitely have a hand for the angles! They are hard but you managed it very well in this picture. Nothing seems off in proportion from the first, second, and even 5th look at it. Yay. c:

Summary:

• Unique, own art style
• Very good colour choices
• Very good shading, light and shadows are very well balanced
• Natural meets Anime = <3
• Image idea is original
• Angles are on point
• minor anatomy issues
• skin colour a bit off

I hope you don't rip me apart for this, and I hope it helps you to read this. :)

Yours,
Miz

I'm ganna write a lot and be as nit pick ass possible, possibly mean, but know one think, I love your drawing ;w;
Your miles better than me XD

Criticism:

~For a start I think it's bold to draw from this perspective, I love it, but there are some noticeable areas where the perspective isn't adapted to the viewing angle like the face and lower body. It's only slightly off though for the lower body.

~Since the left leg it going towards us, the left hip should be projecting with it causing the breast to angle slightly too, here you've just projected the butt more.

~The Palm of the top hand has a very fatty curve, that's a bit to steep at it's peak, you should smooth is down a little. It also have a deep show in the knuckle, when non of the other knuckles have the faintest shadow despite being further away from the light source.

~What I love about this most is how you reflected the Blue lights around her, and it's works well, but the highlight is less visible in the hair and the raised arm and face doesn't have that highlight, which breaks the consistency a little. And because the nose and lips projects maybe they could do with a little more blue reflections.

~The face, although great, seems over size, especially for the Manga/anime style you were going for , girls usually have smaller heads with wider cheeks to make them look more cute.

~The ears are slightly small too, and the Eye brows don't fit with the hair style, you should give it some more tones and colours.

~The hair is AMAZING, and looks really refined and well done, but the background sort of creates a weird contrast, it fits well, but I think it could do with a bit more small detail and improvement on the white part. Some of the white highlights on the background are a bit too blooby, I think reducing their transparency would be good because it would show that they are apart of this little watery world wind. The red sparkles are sort of random, because there isn't much red in the background, and the tornado you made too bold and less translucent, so it feels like the red came from no were aposed to it looking like it game from gems in the wind or something behind the wind, I like the idea, it would be great if you done a red and blue world wind, all I think you need to do it add a few more stray red streaks or gems as debris.

Conclusion:
It's original in terms of how you drew it, the thick outline and the highlight which is done very well for the clothe's, because it matches the texture, it looks visually pealing, but those little think I was talking about like the tall head and inconsistency in style confuses my eyes slightly. The techniques are great, but there are too many clashing techniques here, you don't really have a uniformed one and thus the impact is limited, it's looks good, but the character blends in with the slightly dull blue, and seeing the thumbnail doesn't entice me as a result, the red is over powered and the hair blends in, if you are an opposite tone like red to it it would looks stunning, but It does seems a bit too hard, way beyond my capabilities, but my point is it inheritance looks slightly dull with the calm blue overpowering the character, adding a blur to the background could help.
